FAQs

Initially, HCMA is offering weekly private lessons on the following instruments: drums, guitar, bass, organ, piano, and voice. We are also excited to announce we will be offering the following group lessons: kindermusik and music theory.

HCMA operates on a 48 week per year calendar, and we bill at a flat monthly tuition each month. This essentially means you end up paying for four lessons per month over the course of the whole year, though some months may end up with three or five lessons. We do not prorate for individual lesson cancellations, however one make-up lesson per month is allowed per our policies. HCMA is open through the summer.

Students are allowed one rescheduled lesson per month for a lesson canceled with 24+ hours notice. Day-of cancellations and cancellations in excess of one per month remain paid and non-reschedulable in order to protect the time and income of our wonderful instructors. This includes day-of sick cancellations, and it is simply about honoring the time the instructor has committed to for that day.

Yes! We are developing specific pipelines for students to play in worship services at Holy Cross, with age/experience-appropriate and genre-appropriate opportunities, and we hope to partner with other local churches in this goal as well. Ask your instructor about opportunities to play at Holy Cross, if they haven't already mentioned it to you!

All HCMA instructors are Christians involved in their own local churches, and many have a specialty in either contemporary or traditional worship music, in addition to careers in music beyond the church walls. However, lessons are 100% open to any and every student, regardless of involvement in church or a family's religious background.

All students will have many opportunities to perform! Instructors will find each student at least two performance opportunities over the course of each year. For many, if not most, this will include at least one traditional-style recital. Further opportunities for students to perform include but are not limited to public community events, worship services and events with Holy Cross, musical needs of local businesses, opportunities to sit-in on instructor gigs, etc. We hope that students and instructors can find a variety of ways to perform around the community and expect that this focus on musical community engagement will be the heartbeat of our school in the long-term!

Individual instructors will communicate with students around needs for gear and curriculum, but students will need their own instrument at home to practice. Guitar and ukulele students need to bring their instruments to lessons, but drums and pianos will be provided at the lesson.
